Is Your Pool Leaking?
In some cases it may be hard to tell, and even harder to find. Water naturally evaporates, and sometimes more rapidly than others depending on weather and climate. You can also gain water naturally through rainfall. It’s important to determine whether or not the pool is actually leaking before you panic and hire someone to find out. City beach Pools can locate the toughest to find leaks using specialized equipment including pressurized leak detection systems. We can dive into your pool and perform comprehensive testing.
So How Can you tell if your pool is leaking?
If you’re unsure of your evaporation rate, there are a few things you can try before you call the professionals.
- Try the “bucket test” to measure water level. It’s quite simple really you just place a bucket next to your pool and mark the water line. Mark the water line in your pool as well (use waterproof tape). If, after 24-48 hours your pool water is lower than your bucket water, you have a leak.
- Check and see if you can find any leaks around the equipment pad, look closely at the valves and filter.
- Walk the perimeter of the pool in the soft ground area, are there any wet areas? Check for sunken areas or erosion.
- Check the skimmer, look closely for cracks, gaps or tears.
Many leaks can be undetectable. If you still suspect you have a pool leak but just cannot determine where, its time to call a professional. Most leaks can be found and repaired without major disruption. Your pool has plumbing in places you cannot see, and plumbing systems are a constant source of water loss. Always consult a professional if you are unsure. City Beach Pools can help.
